Terms of D7 Visa
The D7 visa allows financially independent applicants to travel to Portugal and obtain a residence permit. To apply for this visa, the applicant must prove that they have a stable passive income outside Portugal and they can support themselves and their family.
A passive source of income can be a pension, real estate rental income, dividends or income from intellectual property. It also allowed to include in the sum salary at remote work. The minimum monthly income must be at least €760.
The D7 visa is issued for 4 months. After receiving the visa, the investor travels to Portugal and applies for a residence permit. To retain residensy, the investor needs to spend at least 183 days per annum in the country. A Portuguese residence permit is initially issued for two years, and then it is renewed every three years. After five years of living in Portugal, the holder can apply for permanent residence or citizenship.

- Residence permit for the whole family The D7 visa is issued for 4 months. It allows you to travel to Portugal and apply for a residence permit. The investor can include their spouse, children and dependent parents in the application.
- Visa-free travel to the Schengen countries Portuguese residence permit holders can visit other Schengen countries visa-free.
- Eligibility for permanent residence or citizenship After 5 years as a resident, you can apply for permanent residence or citizenship. You will need to confirm your knowledge of the language at a conversational level and the absence of a criminal record in Portugal. As Portugal recognizes dual citizenship, you do not have to renounce citizenship of your country of origin.

Portugal D7 Visa application process
- Registration at the Portuguese tax office and obtaining an NIF number.
- Open an account in a Portuguese bank.
- Buy or rent a home.
- Submission of documents for a D7 visa and submission of biometrics at the Portuguese consulate in the country of origin of the applicant.
- Travel to Portugal on a D7 visa, which is valid for 4 months.
- Registration at the Portuguese Migration Service (SEF) to apply for a residence permit. An appointment hasto be pre-booked for the application to be submitted.
- Getting a residence permit: once the application is approved, the residence permit is mailed to your registered address in Portugal
Documents required for D7 visa application
- Visa application form.
- Valid passport.
- Two color photographs.
- Medical insurance policy.
- Confirmation of the absence of a criminal record issued by the country of residence of the applicant.
- Confirmation of the presence of your own or rented housing in Portugal: title documents for real estate or a lease agreement.
- A statement from your Portuguese bank indicating that you have sufficient funds to live in Portugal for 1 year (based on a minimum of €760).
- Proof of relationship for family members: marriage certificate or birth certificate.
- Document confirming your taxpayer number in Portugal (NIF).
